Gammanpila Lashes Out At UNP Manifesto

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila lashed out at the UNP manifesto today, saying that there were numerous shortcomings and pitfalls in it.

Speaking today on the manifesto he said that the manifesto is erroneous in its preface itself. The preface mentions that the main parties which joined forces with President Maithripala Sirisena are now with the UNP, Gammanpila pointed out. This claim is erroneous as the TNA, the JVP and the Democratic Party are contesting the election separately, Gammanpila added.

He also said that even though the manifesto claimed to create a ‘knowledge based economy’, the strategy towards achieving this goal is not mentioned. In contrast, the plan to weaken the state sector is described in this manifesto, Gammanpila added.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the UNP has suggested the creation of a megalopolis, contrary to the development models accepted today. Plans to destroy the free health service are also evident in the manifesto, he added.
