Wasim Thajudeen Memorial Trophy Held Today

The Wasim Thajudeen Memorial Trophy, hosted by the Wasim Thajudeen Foundation, will be held this afternoon at the CR&FC Grounds in Colombo for the second successive year.
 
It will be played under the banner “Pride of Origin”. The foundation organizes the event with the endorsement from the Old Boys’ Association of S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia and the Old Boys’ Union of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School.
 
There will be three games played as follows:
 
1st game – U-16 present boys’ game, kick off at 2.45pm
2nd Game – 10 a side Rugby (Tag), kick off at 3.30pm
3rd Game – 15 a side Rugby (Contact), kick off at 4.30pm, for the Wasim Thajudeen Memorial Trophy.
 
Thajudeen started his rugby at St. Thomas’ Prep School and moved onto St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia. He represented St. Thomas’ College from 2001 to 2003. He turned out for Havelock's Sports Club in 2005 and represented the national side for the first time in 2008.
 
Thajudeen died in 2012 under controversial circumstances. The CID is conducting investigations in to the death. His remains are to be exhumed on Monday for further forensic analysis.
