Senasinghe Fails To Turn Up At Magistrate's Court

Deputy Justice Minister Sujeew Senasinghe failed to appear before the Homagama Magistrate's Court on Wednesday when the case on an alleged verbal assault of a policeman was taken up.

The magistrate had issued notice on the Deputy Minister to appear at the courts today.

However, his lawyer said that Senasinghe had to be present at the Human Rights Commission today regarding a Fundamental Rights petition he had filed against the police.

The alleged incident took place during a recent election rally in Habarakada. Senasinghe allegedly made a verbal assault on a policeman on July 15.

The Deputy Minister filed a Fundamental Rights petition recently alleging that the policeman made a false complaint against him. The policeman acted under the influence of alcohol, Senasinghe also alleged.
