Tony Blair Leaves Sri Lanka Concluding Two Week Visit

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair left Sri Lanka early this morning, concluding his two week private visit to the island.

He left the island from the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport at 12.10am on a special plane.

Blair, who arrived on August 11 with his wife and two of his children, called upon President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday, before leaving the country.

He offered his support in the government's efforts to build up Sri Lanka's image internationally.

Tony Blair was first elected to the UK Parliament in 1983, and served as the Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007.
