Inaugural Session Of Eighth Parliament Held Today

The inaugural session of the Eighth Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka takes place today.

The session will begin at 9am.

The first task of the Parliament will be to select a Speaker. Once he is chosen, he will take oath. Thereafter, all parliamentarians will take their oaths in front of the Speaker.

Following this, the Deputy Speaker and the Deputy Chairman of Committees will be elected. Thereafter the meeting will be adjourned until 3pm.

The President will make a special announcement at 3pm. He is likely to outline the policy of the government.
