An abandoned fibreglass boat created a flutter among local fishermen as well as security agencies at Maniyan island near the Vedaranyam shore in Nagpattinam, Tamil Nadu, on Monday.

The contained an eight HP Yamaha engine and had no registration number. Fishnets and a drinking water bottle containing the name of a Sri Lankan company were also found inside the seized boat.

Police suspect that the boat could belong to Sri Lanka, the Deccan Chronicle said.

Vedaranayam coastal security group and Tamil Nadu Police Q branch are investigating.
