Sri Lankan President Congratulates Nepal For Promulgating Constitution

Deputy Prime Minster Prakash Man Singh and Sri Lankan President Maitripala Sirisena held a meeting in New York on Wednesday.

Matters related to South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), bilateral relations and mutual cooperation were discussed on the occasion.

The Sri Lankan President has wished to extend support to the construction of temples at Swoyambhu – which is in the world heritage site – and to make a Nepal visit on the opportune time, shared Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mahendra Bahadur Pandey.

The peace symbol, Gautam Buddha was born in Nepal and there are Buddhist religious people in Sri Lanka so that Neal and Sri Lanka has nurtured a good cultural relation, Minister Pandey quoted the Sri Lankan President as saying.

Sri Lankan President Sirisena also congratulated Nepal and Nepali people for the promulgation of a new constitution through the Constituent Assembly, shared Minister Pandey.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Singh shared that Nepal has recently adopted an inclusive democratic constitution through the Constituent Assembly and the country would move ahead by successfully implementing the statute, PM’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr Dinesh Bhattarai quoted DPM Singh as saying.

Prime Minister’s foreign affairs advisor Dr Bhattarai, acting secretary at Foreign Ministry Shaner Das Bairagi, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to UN Durga Bhatatrai and Nepal’s Ambassador to US Dr Arjun Karki among others were present at the meeting.
