HRC Commences Inquiry On Complaint Regarding Kotadeniyawa Schoolboy

The Human Rights Commission has commenced the inquiry into the alleged human rights violation of the 17-year-old schoolboy in Kotadeniyawa, who was recently arrested and released on the murder of a toddler in the area.

A complaint was filed at the HRC on behalf of the schoolboy by All Ceylon Teachers' Union recently.

The lawyers of the schoolboy informed Minuwangoda Magistrate that he has been assaulted at the Police.

Meanwhile, the Police is conducting a separate inquiry under the instructions of the IGP, into the alleged assault. The Police recorded a statement from the schoolboy on the alleged incident yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Police has been severely criticized on arresting the schoolboy on fragile basis and letting his identity be known to the public.
