Eknaligoda Case: CID Permitted To Investigate Giritale Camp

The Homagama Magistrate permitted the CID to investigate the Giritale Army camp where journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda was allegedly held in 2010.

The CID requested permission from the Magistrate to photograph the relevant sections and examine records kept by the camp.

The CID informed court that an investigation was underway on the disappearance of Eknaligoda, on a complaint filed by his wife. Several intelligence officers were already being detained and questioned, it was also informed.

Attorney Dilipa Peiris who appeared on behalf of the complainant said the intelligence officers had tape recorded a discussion with Ekneligoda on August 27, 2009, at a land in Sigiriya belonging to Ekneligoda, and that the recording had been sent to Director of Intelligence on the following day. He sought Court's permission to produce the said recording and other documents sent to the Director of Intelligence and also the mobile phone numbers of the intelligence officers concerned. Furthermore, permission was sought to examine the movements register and the book in which permission is recorded to go more than 20km away from the camp in Giritale.

The Magistrte allowed the CID to conduct necessary investigations and ordered the Army Commander to provide necessary facilities.
