Prices of imported Japanese vehicles are expected to increase considerably, following the increase on customs duties.

Through the Gazette notification No. 1933/16 pertaining to imposing customs duties, the government has announced new customs duties on Japanese motor vehicles.

Accordingly, duties on a Toyota Axio will increase by Rs 700,000 and duty on a Toyota Aqua will increase by Rs. 770,000.

Toyota Hiace Petrol vehicles will see a tax hike of Rs. 1,350,000, and  a Toyota Hiace Diesel vehicle will see a tax hike of Rs. 1,700,000.

Duties on Toyota Premio and Toyota Allion have been increased by Rs. 6,75,000.

Toyota Prius will see a hike of Rs 1,150,000. A Toyota Harrier will also see a tax hike of Rs 1,150,000.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Outlander will see a tax hike of Rs 850,000.
