Government To Probe Rajapaksa's Foreign Bank Account

The government said on Wednesday that the United States and India were assisting local authorities in investigating a foreign bank account in Dubai with millions of U.S. dollars belonging to the son of the former president and UPFA parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa

Cabinet spokesperson and Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said information with regard to the account had been passed onto the government by some officials of the bank.

"We were informed by the Sri Lankans working at the bank about the account," Senaratne said, adding that the Attorney General's department had been notified in order to take legal actions to investigate the bank account.

Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family, who are all under a corruption probe, have however denied the allegations of holding foreign bank accounts.
