Communist Party Divided Over Supporting United Opposition: Report

The Sri Lanka Communist Party is threatening to break up on the UNHRC Resolution on Sri Lanka and its decision to support the united opposition's campaign against it, political sources said.

Veteran party member A. G. Jayasena has reportedly resigned as the National Organizer of the Party, protesting the party's decision.

At a recent meeting of the party, Jayasena has said that the defeat of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election was a positive development.

Meanwhile, serious rifts are reported in the the Communist Party Central Committee over the party's decision to support the united opposition. The majority of the Central Committee is reportedly opposed to this decision.
