Answering questions raised by Opposition Chief Whip and JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Prime Minister said that investigations by the Police and the Bribery Commission are still being carried out.

Wickremesinghe also rejected the allegation that the Attorney General has been influenced by political authorities to withdraw the cases on the Avant-Garde issue. The AG has not ordered to stop the investigations, he also said.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the Defence Ministry has granted permission to Avant-Garde Maritime Services to establish floating armories. However, no permission has been granted to place the weapons in the Galle Harbour, he said.

Sri Lankan government has not issued licenses for the weapons and they have licenses of foreign countries. The weapons will be inspected under the supervision of the Navy, Wickremesinghe also said.

There was no indication that the police was aware of the floating armory until the raid took place, Wickremesinghe maintained.
