Alahapperuma Hits Out At Speaker For Allocating Less Time For Opposition

UPFA Matara District MP Dullas Alahapperuma expressed his dissatisfaction with the Speaker for the lack of opportunity given to the opposition in Parliament, both in time allocation and appointment of MPs for the committees.

Speaking at a recent public meeting, Alahapperuma said that he was extremely satisfied by the decision to appoint Karu Jayasuriya as Speaker of Parliament. ‘I thought this will be the golden era of Sri Lankan Parliament since Jayasuriya was known as a very reasonable individual’ Alahapperuma said.

He went on to say that his hopes were dashed by certain decisions that were taken by the Speaker. The Opposition was being given less time to speak in Parliament, Alahapperuma argued. The opposition was also unjustly treated in the appointment of MPs to the COPE committee and Committee on Public Accounts, he he said. Furthermore, Alahapperuma pointed out that the Advisory Committees in Parliament are yet to be named.

Alahapperuma requested the Speaker not to surrender to undue pressure and carry out his tasks in a just manner.
