Investigate War From 1983, Urges Somawansa Amarasinghe

The Secretary of the Janatha Sevaka Party Somawansa Amarasinghe said he was opposed to the UNHRC resolution since it focuses only on the last stages of the war.

Speaking at a press conference today, Amarasinghe praised the discourse on compensating victims and establishing a Truth Commission. However, he maintained that this discourse is one-sided. If there is a genuine need to find the truth, the government should focus the Truth Commission on the war from the Black July incidents in 1983, he argued.

All communities suffered due to the war and the truth of these incidents should be revealed he said.

Amarasinghe also pointed out that examining the war from its early years will help understand it. It has to be studied deeper than what is suggested, he pointed out.
