Nimal Siripala De Silva 'Threatens' To Leave Government

November 09, 2015

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva said that he will not hesitate to leave the government if it was moving in the wrong direction.

Addressing a public meeting in Badulla recently, de Silva pointed out that he joined the government at the invitation of President Maithripala Sirisena.

"We did not join the UNP" he pointed out.

He justified the decision to join the government by arguing that it was done in order to serve the people. People ask for drinking water, roads and jobs, he said, adding that he will be able to provide for these needs only if he was in the government.

The Parliament cannot be dissolved for four and half years, de Silva pointed out. If he were to be in opposition for that long, he won't be able to serve his people, he said.

Speaking further, de Silva argued that it will be easier to take the government in the correct path by staying within the government. However, if the government was taking a wrong direction, he will not hesitate to leave, de Silva claimed.
