Suspected Ex-LTTE Prisoners Recommence Hunger Strike

November 10, 2015

Suspected ex-LTTE prisoners recommenced a hunger strike across several prisons in the island, demanding their release.

They argue that they have been kept in prison without trial for years and have to be released unconditionally. Around 200 prisoners are reportedly involved in the protest action.

The prisoners launched a similar protest on October 12 this year, and concluded their hunger strike on October 17 following assurance from the government. President Maithripala Sirisena instructed that they should be given a solution by November 7.
