Ministry of Education, Northern Province has shut down all the schools in Northern Province today, under the order of T. Kurukularasa, the Minister of Education in Northern Province.

In a press release, the Minister stated that the decision was taken since the suicide of a school student in Kokkuvil may cause an outburst among school students.

However, principals say that a significant number of teachers and students have attended schools, unaware of the situation. It is an immense responsibility to return them to homes safely, they added.
