Senaratne Proposes HIV Test For University Entrees

Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister dr. Rajitha Senaratne yesterday said that the university entrees should be tested for HIV before they are admitted to the universities.

He made this proposal while speaking at the Parliament on the current situation regarding the HIV and AIDS in Sri Lanka.

He pointed out that there were around 71 children under the age of 9 years who have been tested positive for HIV. There were also 20 school children who are HIV positive, he added.

Most children under the age of 15 have been infected through their mothers, he added.

He proposed blood tests to be carried out for all A\L students and also through youth organizations.
