CMC Blacklists LiveEvents Over 29 Million Tax Issue: Sanga And Mahela In Hot Water

December 30, 2015

Colombo Municipal Council has blacklisted LiveEvents, the company which organized Latin American singer Enrique's concert in Colombo for not paying an entertainment tax of Rs.29 Million.

Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil, who spoke to reporters a short while ago, said the ban would be effective until settlement of the overdue amount.

With this new development, the event company formed by two legendary Sri Lankan cricketers will not be able to host any event in Colombo unless they take measures to settle the matter.

Live Events is managed by top radio DJ Shaq who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the company, along with Kumar Sangakkara (Board Director) and Mahela Jayawardene (Board Director).

Enrique Iglesias’ “Love and Sex Tour” concert held at the CR and FC Grounds, Colombo on Sunda had cost a loss of Rs 29 million in tax revenue to the Colombo Municipal Council [CMC].

It was the largest entertainment tax fraud to have been inflicted on the Council so far by any event organizer
