Giritale Intelligence Camp Sealed

The military intelligence corps camp in Giritale has been sealed, a day after the Homagama Magistrate directed that the Army Commander could be arrested and charged if he did not cooperate with the investigations into the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda.

The camp has been sealed on the orders of the Army Commander. The Military Police has taken over the camp in order to assist with the investigations.

As part of the investigations, the CID visited the Giritale camp last year with several military personnel who had been detained.

On Monday, Senior State Counsel (SSC) Dileepa Peiris, who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General, informed Homagama Magistrate's Court that the Army has not fully cooperated with the investigations into the incident. The prosecutors were yet to receive vital administrative material pertaining to the investigations, the court was told.

Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake responded that Army Commander could be arrested and charged if the Army did not cooperate with the investigations.
