'Seya Sadewmi Trial' To Be Heard Daily From Today

The trial of Saman Jayalath, who is accused of the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Kotadeniyawa, will be taken on a daily basis from today at the Negombo High Court before High Court Judge Champa Janaki Rajaratna.

The judge announced earlier this month that the trial will be heard as a special case.

The five-year-old Seya Sadewmi disappeared from her house on September 11, 2015, and her body was discovered two days later. The suspect, Saman Jayalath, was arrested in October.

The murder investigation created controversy as several suspects were arrested and later released on DNA test results. The Kotadeniyawa police OIC and several other police personnel are facing disciplinary action on the arrest of a 17-year-old school boy and another person in relation to the murder.
