IGP Warned Of Legal Action Over Embilipitiya Youth's Death

Attorney-at-Law Udul Premaratne sent a letter of demand to the Inspector General of Police, demanding the arrest of the former Embilipitiya ASP and other police personnel implicated in the death of a youth in the town early this month.

Premaratne argues that there is enough evidence to arrest the police personnel allegedly responsible for the incident.

He warns of legal action if the IGP does not take steps to make the arrests within 24 hours.

Twenty one police personnel attached to the Embilipitiya Police Station were transferred pending an inquiry in to the death of Sumith Prasanna Jayawardena following a 'clash' with police. The inquiry supervised by Senior DIG of Sabaragamuwa has revealed details of police involvement in the incident, police sources said last week.
