Parliament To Consider Appointment Of Constitutional Assembly Today

February 23, 2016

The debate on the proposal to appoint a Constitutional Assembly to draft a new Constitution will be considered at the Parliament today.

On January 9, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented a resolution for the establishment of a Constitutional Assembly composed of all MPs for the purpose of drafting a new constitution.

However, the opposition objected, saying that the process should go through a Parliamentary Select Committee.
