Two Suspected LTTE Inmates Launch Hunger Strike

February 23, 2016

Two Tamil political prisoners detained in Anuradhapura prison have started a hunger strike, reported Thushara Upuldeniya, the Spokesperson of the Commissioner General of Prisons.

Prisoners have informed the prison authorities that they need a rapid examination of their cases.

Upuldeniya stated that the government has been informed about hunger strikers’ demands.

Meanwhile, former MP and the leader of Tamil United Liberation Front Veerasingham Anandasangaree has sent a letter to the President, requesting the release of Tamil political prisoners. He has requested the President to release them conforming to Indo-Lanka Accord.

Anandasangaree has further stated that although the Accord is old, its conditions and facts are still valid, hence the President has power to implement the Indo-Lanka Accord.
