Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam yesterday called for the separation of the child in Kuliyapitiya who was denied a school due to HIV rumors from his mother.

"The Zonal Education Director told me that the mother has HIV" the Minister said.

He then went to make a strange statement, saying that the child could be infected with HIV since he was sleeping under his mother's protection.

The government will seek a court ruling to transfer the child to probationary care, the Minister said, adding that the government will care for his education.
