Prime Minister Intervenes To Resolve Trade Union Action In Colombo Harbour

The trade union action launched at the Colombo Harbour was discontinued after a discussion between trade union leaders and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Temple Trees this morning.

The government agreed to pay the workers a bonus for the Sinhala and Hindu new year and also came to an agreement to offer a year-end bonus based on productivity.

A group of workers launched a strike from last evening, insisting the government should address their demands.

However, Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga earlier said that the strike was launched in order to further the personal agenda of some trade union leaders.
