BASL Calls For Disciplinary Action Against Thewarapperuma

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) on Friday condemned the conduct of Deputy Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma who attempted suicide inside a school. ‘He has set a bad example and the President and Prime Minister should immediately take disciplinary action against him’, the BASL stated.

Addressing a letter to the President, the Bar Association stated that the actions of the deputy minister was a bad example to the ordinary people of the country and it would also be seen as flouting the pledge of good governance.

The BASL pointed out that as a politician holding a responsible position, he had acted in an irresponsible manner, and urged the president to take appropriate action against the deputy minister.

Meanwhile in another letter to the president, the BASL requested him to take measures to appoint a suitable official to the post of Central Bank Governor without delay, sans political interference.
