Rio Olympics: USA Leads Final Medal Count, Russia Fourth Despite Absence Of Track And Field Team (See Full List)

The United States once again topped the Summer Olympics medal table at the 2016 Rio Olympics, continuing its dominance in the world's largest sports event.

The USA won 121 medals with 46 golds while Great Britain edged out the People's Republic of China to second place.

The Russian Federation came fourth despite the absence of its track and field team and some other athletes.

Japan was in sixth place and South Korea in the eighth. South Korea's arch rival North Korea was in 34th place.

Overall, 86 countries and the Independent Olympic Athletes team managed to win medals.
