Third Resignation In One Week: Janaka Wakkumbura Resigns As Kalawana SLFP Organizer

UPFA Ratnapura District MP Janaka Wakkumbura announced his resignation as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Chief Organizer in Kalawana electorate.

Wakkumbura, a member of the 'Joint Opposition' backing former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is the third MP to resign from a key post in SLFP after the sacking of a number of SLFP organizers recently.

On August 19 Dullas Alahapperuma resigned as the SLFP Matara District leader and Bandula Gunawardena resigned as Homagama Chief Organizer a few days later.

Wakkumbura was elected to the Parliament at the August 2015 General Election with 69,014 preferential votes from the Rathnapura District.
