Female Police Officers To Be Given Opportunity To Rise Up To Senior DIG Rank

Secretary of the National Police Commission Ariyadasa Cooray stated that the commission is prepping polices to improve the opportunity to female officers to enter into higher positions in Sri Lanka Police Service.

Speaking to the BBC Sandeshaya, he revealed that changes will be instituted by which femal police officers can rise as high as a Senior DIG. At present they can only go up to the rank of SSP.

He further mentioned that there are 10,000 women police are in services and the National Police Commission is taking necessary steps to fill 3,000 vacancies left.

The first and only woman Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Sri Lanka Premila Diwakara held office two decades back.
