Veteran Translator Cyril C Perera Passes Away

Veteran translator Cyric C Perera passed away today at the age of 93.

Born on June 3, 1923, he studied art, architecture and building engineering at the Colombo Technical College and joined government service.

He later started translating Western and Russian classics and has been renowned for his translations of Tolstoy's 'War and Peace', Fyodor Dostoevsky's 'Karamazov Brothers', Flaubert's 'Emma Bovary', Gogol's 'Dead Souls', Herman Melville's 'Moby Dick', Hemingway's 'The Old Man and the Sea' and 'Naked Among Wolves' by Bruno Apitz among others.

He also translated several dramas.

Perera was an architect by profession.
