No Animal Sacrifice At Munneswaram Badrakaliamman Kovil This Year

There will be no animal sacrifice offerings at annual festival at the Munneswaram Badrakaliamman Kovil, Chilaw, said a kurukkal (priest) of the Kovil.

A kurukkal, who wished to remain anonymous, said even though all other rituals to be held as usual without any animal sacrifice offerings at annual festival. No further information cannot be provided without the permission of his lawyer, as there is an ongoing court case regarding this issue, he said.

According to a Court decision given before that a license should be obtained from the Chilaw Provincial Council if any animal sacrifices were to be made. An officer from the Chilaw Provincial Council said that a request for has made by Badrakaliamman Kovil, though  so far no such license has granted  by the Council since the kovil has not responded to the requests made by the Regional Director of Health Services.
