Indictment were served to former DIG Vass Gunawardena, his wife, son and five police personnel of the Colombo Crime Division over the abduction and assault of Nipuna Ramanayake, a student of the SLIIT, in August 2009.

Vass Gunawardena and his son have already been sentenced to death over the murder of businessman Mohammed Shiyam.

The others were released on a cash bail of Rs 50,000 and two sureties each of Rs 500,000.

The trial was fixed for February 6, 7 and 8.
