September 19, 2016

Retired Major General Kamal Gunaratne said that he will not enter politics and that he does not have a political party.

Speaking to the media in Kandy, Gunaratne said that he has certain people he respect but he does not support any party.

Pointing out that he reached maturity as a military officer, Gunaratne said that he will be a new born in the political field. There is no need for him to return to being like a new born, he added.

Meanwhile, he refuted the allegation that he has revealed war secrets in his recent book, "Road to Nandikadal." If there are secrets of war with me, they will go to the grave along with me, he added.

Former army commander Sarath Fonseka, who turned to politics after retiring from the army, had recently said that certain writers have revealed war secrets in their books, in an apparent reference to Maj. Gen. Gunaratne.
