September 27, 2016

UPFA MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage was released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya over two different cases today.

Aluthgamage was released on the money laundering charges being investigated by the CID on a cash bail of Rs 50,000 and four sureties of Rs 10 million each.

He was already in remand custody for this case. The CID said that the investigations were not complete and objected to Aluthgamage being released on bail. However, the Magistrate decided to grant bail.

Meanwhile, a case filed by the Bribery Commission over alleged corruption during the purchase of sports equipment was also considered today.

Aluthgamage was released on a cash bail of Rs 100,000 and two sureties of Rs 5 million in this case.

Both cases were fixed for November 4.
