International Police Conference Commences

The International Police Conference ‘Future Policing: Prospects and Challenges for South Asia’ commenced yesterday (04) at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The aim of this Conference is to discuss the South Asian policing methods and to make reforms in the police service while identifying the common issues in the region and understanding the diversity among them. The Conference will be held in Colombo from 04th to 06th October.

This conference was organized jointly by the National Police Commission, the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies and the Sri Lanka Police, in collaboration with the United Nations, coinciding with the 150th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police.

During the ceremony a special memento was presented to the President Sirisena by Pro. Siri Hettige, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Police Commission.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Law & Order, Mr. Jagath P Wijeweera, Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, Regional Centre for Strategic Studies Executive Director Professor Imitiaz Ahmed and many others participated in this event.
