Blatant Favouration In Awarding Sri Lanka Cricket Players' Contracts: Minister Calls For Inquiry

Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara called for an inquiry on how players were selected for new domestic contracts at the Sri Lanka Cricket.

SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala said that the contracts will be signed by end of this month. Around 100 players have been selected for the contracts.

However serious suspicions were reported as to how a majority of these players were selected for contracts.

It was reported that the contracts were awarded to players representing the clubs of the office bearers at SLC. Meanwhile, sources within the SLC alleged that the selection committee has been kept in the dark.

Furthermore, several players who were selected have not played cricket fir Sri Lanka in a decade or even more. For example Charitha Buddhika last played an ODI in 2003. His last Test cricket match was in 2002.
