New Committee To Say How News Should Be Reported

A committee is to be appointed to obtain recommendations on how electronic media should act when reporting news.  Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka says they will be forwarded to the cabinet in order to create a certain regulation in this regard.

The minister made this disclosure while joining an event held in Galle yesterday to enlighten journalists of Galle and Matara districts on the right to information act. Speaking further minister Gayantha Karunathilaka added the government has ensured media freedom to the fullest. Therefore, all media institutions should follow a code of ethics when carrying out their duties.

The minister pointed out they should be careful when reporting about children since it can affect their future.  Views of journalists, media institutions as well as the general public will be obtained when preparing recommendations.  He also pledged to provide required facilities for the journalists.
