November 07, 2016

The government promised pensions to be paid for disabled veterans with a service period less than 12 years, ending the protest movement which was launched on October 31.

The Defence Ministry, in a press release, said that the government has allocated the funds from the budget in 2017.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga declined to comment on this issue yesterday when they spoke to media. However, the Defence Ministry says that the funds will be allocated for the pensions from February 2017.
