Tissa Attanayake Seeks Bail From Appeals Court

Former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, who is in remand custody over the alleged forging of a document filed a revision bail application at the Court of Appeal today.

He was remanded by the Colombo High Court as he is charged under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Act. A bail application was also refused by the High Court.

Attanayake is accused of forging the signatures of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe when Sirisena was the common candidate of the opposition. He displayed an alleged agreement between the two during the campaign.

Attanayake is accused of inciting communal disharmony and is charged under the ICCPR Act.
