November 16, 2016

Colombo Crime Division yesterday informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya that they have sought the AG's advice on the investigations regarding the alleged contempt of the national flag by Watareka Vijitha Thera.

Vijitha Thera, on July 23, 2015, lashed out at the National Flag of Sri Lanka, calling it to be burned.

Vijitha Thera said that the flag has reserved 75 percent for the Sinhalese community. The lion and four Bo leaves have been included in the flag to cover a large area, he added.

Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera complained to the Police Headquarters against the statement made by Vijitha Thera.

Vijitha Thera was a candidate of the Nava Sama Samaja Party from the Colombo in the August 2015 General Election.
