Five Policemen Remanded Further Over Death Of Jaffna University Students

November 18, 2016

Five policemen in custody over the death of two Jaffna University students were further remanded till December 2 when the magisterial inquiry was taken up today at the Jaffna Magistrate's Court.

The policemen have been in custody following the death of the two students last month near a police check point. They died in what was described as an accident while riding a motorbike. Gunshot wounds were found from one of the two students.

The five policemen were manning a check point near the site of the accident. It was later claimed that the police had shot at the bike since it sped away without heeding orders to stop. However, the fact that the wounds were found on the body of the driver of the bike raised further questions.
