No Right To Celebrate Mahaviru Day Says State Minister of Defence

November 21, 2016

State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene states that under no circumstances celebration of Mahaviru Day will be allowed to held. Law will be enforced in such attempt as LTTE is a terrorist organization. Though commemoration of non-combatants diseased from the war is not restricted, Minster further stated.

Minister was commenting regarding a statement made by Northern Provincial Councillor M. K. Sivajilingam on celebrating Mahaviru Day. Sivajilingam said that if Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) can mark their Il Maha Viru Day to commemorate fallen members of the party during the 1988/89 uprising, LTTE Mahaviru Day also should be allowed to mark.

LTTE's Mahaviru Day is to be marked on November 27 and the Police has already pronounced that such celebration is against the law.
