TMVP leader and former LTTE Karuna faction member Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pilleyan filed a Fundamental Rights petition at the Supreme Court, arguing that his fundamental rights have been infringed by subjecting him to prolonged remand custody.

Chandrakanthan has named the IGP and others as respondents.

He was arrested in October 2015 for the murder of former MP Joseph Pararajasekaram and has been held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
