Wijeya Wickrema Manamperige Sanjaya Preethi Viraj, the state witness of the Raviraj murder trial, was released yesterday, a day after the conclusion of taking evidence by the prosecution.

A 39-year-old former police constable once attached to the PSD, he allegedly assisted in the murder of the former TNA MP and has been in remand custody for one and a half years.

He gave evidence against the six accused in the case, out of which, three are absconding.

His lawyers requested the court to release him since he has already given evidence and that the trial was at its concluding stages.
