Former UNP General Secretary Senarath Kapukotuwa has passed away last night. 

Kapukotuwa, at the time of his demise, was functioning as a Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Organisation. 

An old boy of Royal College, Colombo, Kapukotuwa became the General Secretary of the party in 2001. 

He stepped down from the General Secretary post after the party's election defeat in 2004. 

He did not play any active role in politics after his resignation from the UNP's General Secretary post.
