A prisoner being held at the Pitigala Police station was found dead in his cell this morning.

The 42-year old man, a resident of Marakkoda, was taken into custody following a clash.

He is suspect to have committed suicide in his cell.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has ordered a probe into the death of the prisoner.

The IGP has promised stern action against those found guilty in any way of causing the death of the prisoner.
