The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has turned down an RTI request regarding the ban on Lanka E News saying the revelation of information pertaining to the ban was a threat to national security. 

The RTI request was filed by Sampath Samarakoon, of Colombo 03. 

Many free media activists criticised the TRC's response saying it was a "shame". 

It was reported that the Sri Lankan mobile service providers blocked access to Lanka E News following directives from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

The Website was banned after it ran a series of articles criticising President Maithripala Sirisena over a Russian warship deal.
