Udayanga Weeratunga Says He Was Released By Dubai Authorities As There Was No INTERPOL Red Notice

February 08, 2018

Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratinga said he was released by the Dubai authorities.

In a Facebook post a short while ago, Weeratunga said he was released as there was no Interpol warrant nor was there any allegations against him at the international level.

Weeratinga also said he did not intend to visit Sri Lanka at this juncture, as the Police had launched a witch-hunt against him.

"But, I state with responsibility that the allegations leveled against me over corruption were false," he said.

However, the Police, on Tuesday, said a team of eight officials from the Police FCID, the CID, the Foreign Ministry, the AG’s Department and the Immigration Department would fly to Dubai to bring Udayanga Weeratunga back.
